Aboriginal Place Names
PLACE NAMES in LAMINGTON NATIONAL PARK
Most of the information provided below is taken from an old (1947) Forestry Department leaflet. The leaflet states: "In choosing the names, the language of the aboriginal tribe of the locality - the Wangerriburras - was drawn on most freely, and visitors, after seeing the spots named, may judge for themselves as to the appropriateness of the names given." The names are listed alphabetically in groups arranged by locality. The last group consists of names outside Lamington National Park, but in the local area. Some of the spellings (and pronunciations) have since changed
